Coming from a publishing background as I have, you may have noticed my emphasis on counting page views. Your analysis needs may differ, hopefully these ideas, techniques and tools will transfer to your requirements easily.

Looking ahead, it would be nice to see capabilities such as URL escaping of log fields, perhaps a general DBI-like API for database driver authors to write to so logging to a database isn't always going to be a one-off or require a pipe, maybe XML based or log headers so one could develop analysis tools that are adaptive to ad-hoc log formats.

With the ground work laid now Apache 2.0, it would be great to see efforts along these lines undertaken. The software will only be as good as we volunteer time toward innovatation.

I would also like to see an open source analysis tool project that operates like the Apache server project. Spearheading such an effort would require more time and wherewithall than I presently have but it is, IMO, sorely needed..
