These are materials are a 3.5 hour tutorial I gave at O'Reilly Open
Source Conference in San Diego in July 2002. It covers a various matchups
of SOAP clients and servers implemented in Perl and Java. The technical
portion starts with basic "hello world" type examples but leads into a full
blown application to provide discussion about code generation and metadata
driven service access infrastructure such as WSDL

If you walk through the slides, build and deploy the sample source code
and examine how the clients and servers work together, you should get
a good picture of how to work with SOAP and it's interoperability issues.
